"From Artifacts to Fieldwork: An Archaeology Student’s Journey"

Speaker: Lorymar Cruz-Sanchez

What can a single artifact tell us about the past? For me, that question began with the research of a medicinal bottle and the local history connected to it and has since grown into a deeper interest in the many stories archaeology can uncover.

In this presentation, I’ll share my journey as an archaeology student, from studying artifacts and uncovering the histories behind them to participating in field schools and archaeological projects. I’ll reflect on the experiences and discoveries that have shaped my interests thus far, challenged the way I think about the past, and helped me understand archaeology beyond the classroom. Most importantly, I’ll share how working with artifacts and experiencing archaeology in the field has deepened my appreciation for the people and stories that can still be found in the material remains they left behind.
